RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC— RTI International opened a branch office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, focused on innovation-led economic growth and strengthening health care systems in the region.
“RTI was founded to improve the human condition by turning knowledge into practice, and that certainly is what we intend to do in Malaysia,” said RTI President and CEO Wayne Holden, Ph.D. “We look forward to collaborating with our Malaysian partners and clients to deliver evidence-based solutions they can trust.”
Pilot programs are being planned with the Ministry of Health and an MOU has been signed with the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation to support technology adoption. RTI’s innovation-led economic development efforts are supported by expertise in key industries, including energy, health, agriculture, education and manufacturing.
To lead RTI’s efforts in the country, Shafenaz Farouk has been named the first managing director to create innovative, research-driven solutions and multi-disciplinary approaches with clients and partners.
Shafenaz joins RTI from the Performance Management and Delivery Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office of Malaysia where she was involved in transformation of national health care by managing performance, facilitating policy change and enabling change. She has more than 16 years of experience in professional advisory services in corporate finance, management consulting and government transformation.
“RTI Malaysia brings together decades of international experience and technical expertise in translating science, technology and implementation of innovation ecosystems into workable solutions to support economic growth. We hope to contribute in making a meaningful impact in Malaysia,” Shafenaz said.
The Malaysia office builds on RTI’s presence in Asia where governments, foundations and private-sector clients across the region have been supported by RTI for more than 35 years. Nearly 500 staff members work across South and Southeast Asia and have ready access to a global workforce of 5,000 experts in social and laboratory sciences, engineering, and international development.
