Liberia

Delivering science-based solutions and technical services to improve lives around the world

As both a global research institute and a leading international development organization, RTI combines our project implementation and technical expertise with those of our partners to co-create smart, shared solutions for a more prosperous, equitable, and resilient world.

For over 15 years, we have collaborated with clients and partners in Liberia to advance sustainable, multi-sectoral solutions for the most difficult development challenges. In all that we do, we strive for transformative change built on equity and inclusion.

Our experience and recent project implementation include:

Education in Liberia

  • Supporting programs to improve education outcomes since 2008.
  • The Transforming the Education System for Teachers and Students in Liberia (TESTS) Activity is strengthening how teachers are trained, building up their skills, and improving the enabling environment so teachers can be successful.
  • Worked in partnership with the Ministry of Education to improve reading instruction and availability of quality reading materials, and to increase parent, community, and private-sector involvement in education through the USAID Read Liberia Activity.
  • The Excellence in Higher Education for Liberian Development (EHELD) project (2011–2017), funded by USAID, helped young Liberians prepare for careers as leaders, entrepreneurs, and valued professionals. EHELD created centers of excellence at two universities—the University of Liberia and Cuttington University—to produce skilled graduates in agriculture and engineering. EHELD also strengthened the capacity of faculty at the universities through extensive degree training programs as well as short courses and mentoring in areas such as curriculum development, pedagogical techniques, use of computers, recordkeeping, and fiscal management, applied research, grant writing, and monitoring and evaluation. Energy in Liberia
  • The Power Africa Off-Grid Program is increasing energy access for over 4.5 million households in 26 African countries, including in Liberia, facilitating the sale of over 69,000 productive use of energy systems and electrification of 230 health facilities, and working with over 600 off-grid energy companies to improve operations through market-based strategies.
