Globally, more than 1 billion people suffer from one or more neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). A group of parasitic and bacterial diseases, NTDs cause severe disability among the world's poorest people. These ailments can lead to disfigurement, social isolation, economic hardship, and even death.
Building on our donor-funded efforts to fight NTDs for nearly 20 years, in 2018 RTI committed $3 million of its own funding to accelerate research and develop innovations to eliminate NTDs.
The RTI NTD strategic investment fund:
- Funded research to inform innovative approaches and tools to address gaps in existing programming
- Amplified donor resources to conduct NTD elimination work not covered through other programs
- Strengthened the capacity of RTI staff and the global NTD community to support health ministries’ efforts to eliminate disease
