Patty Yuen

Patty Yuen specializes in technical assistance and educational opportunities for grantees focused on Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. She has more than a decade of experience working on the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center, a project of the federal Administration on Aging/Administration for Community Living. Her background also includes developing programs to protect and care for residents at a long-term care facility.

Recently, Ms. Yuen contributed to a project funded by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE), Support for Involuntary Discharges in Nursing Facilities. This project explored the data related to frequency, cause, and appropriateness of involuntary discharges of residents from nursing homes across the country and resulted in a paper. She has also contributed to research for background papers and issue briefs presented at the 2016 ASPE National Research Summit on Dementia Care and Services.

Ms. Yuen joined RTI in 2014 from the national office of the Alzheimer’s Association in Chicago, where she worked on state programs and in the Greenfield Library and Resource Center. She holds an Activity Director Certificate from Triton College and previously worked as the Social Services Director of a long-term care facility. Her responsibilities included investigating and preventing abuse, providing education for facility staff, and developing in-service materials on abuse prevention and culturally sensitive care. She also designed and delivered specialty programs for residents with early- and late-stage Alzheimer’s.
