Michael Penne

Michael Penne has more than 26 years of experience in the design and conduct of probability sample surveys and serves as a senior research statistician at RTI. He is an expert in varied aspects of probability sampling, household interview surveys, analysis of survey data to account for special clustering and stratification features, and development and implementation of design optimization features.  Mr. Penne is also an experienced SAS and SUDAAN programmer, specializing in programming nonstandard, complicated modeling and analysis procedures.

Mr. Penne serves as project director for Occupational Information Network (O*NET), the most current and comprehensive standard source of descriptive, occupational information in the United States. He also serves as assistant director for editing and imputation on the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Through this role he oversees two large teams of statisticians and data programmers, managing the coordination of activities between the two groups and developing techniques to enhance and expedite processing activities. He also leads the assignment and supervision of statistical staff performing analyses and producing estimates for ad hoc requests. Mr. Penne also served as the statistical director for the National Analytic Center/Analytic Support Center project where his work in substance use disorders and need for treatment among older adults is frequently cited.
