Lisa Newman

Lisa Newman is a Research Epidemiologist who serves as a Project Director for one of RTI’s major COVID-19 projects, the RECOVER initiative. Funded by the National Institutes of Health, this initiative focuses on post-acute sequelae of the SARS-CoV-2, or PASC.

RTI serves as the Administrative Coordinating Center for RECOVER, which aims to rapidly improve our understanding of and ability to treat and prevent PASC. She partners with NIH and RTI’s Principal Investigator to oversee project operations, including oversight of various operational activities including collaboration and communication with the Clinical Science Core, the Data Resource Core, project staffing, quality control, milestone tracking, and financial tracking and reporting.

In addition, Ms. Newman is the Management and Operations Core Leader for the HEALing Communities Study. In partnership with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Ms. Newman supports research that tests the immediate impact of implementing an integrated set of evidence-based interventions to prevent and treat opioid misuse and opioid use disorders within highly affected communities.

Before joining RTI in 2002, Ms. Newman managed national and international epidemiological studies directed by the National Cancer Institute. Her responsibilities include designing data collection forms; monitoring study accrual; training staff in operational procedures; monitoring and tracking data, including biological specimens; and overseeing data preparation and processing. She also has experience as a manager of clinical research operations for the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Dallas, Texas’s Children’s Medical Center. In this role, she registered patients on research protocols, compiled and submitted therapy data and monitored study compliance. She is a member of the American Public Health Association.
