Kevin C. Davis is the Director of the Media Campaign Evaluation Program at RTI and has more than 25 years of experience conducting evaluations of mass reach health marketing campaigns and media-based health interventions. Mr. Davis is trained in the applied economics discipline with specific expertise in evaluation planning, statistical modeling of campaign effects, study design, survey design, economic modeling, media data analytics, and project management for comprehensive campaign evaluations.

He led RTI’s muti-year evaluation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) Tips From Former Smokers® Campaign. This large-scale project has generated foundational research on the effectiveness of the nation’s largest ever public health campaign focused on adult smoking cessation. Mr. Davis has also directed several major state campaign evaluations, including a five-year evaluation of the California Tobacco Prevention Program’s anti-tobacco media campaign and the California Substance and Addiction Prevention Branch’s “Facts Fight Fentanyl” campaign.

Previously, he oversaw national and regional evaluations of other health-focused media campaigns, including:

  • Parents Speak Up,” a national campaign on parent-child communication, funded by the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Population Affairs
  • Drive High, Get a DUI,” a campaign to prevent driving under the influence of marijuana, sponsored by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
  • Take Charge. Take the Test,” a campaign to increase HIV testing, supported by CDC
  • F.A.S.T,” a campaign on stroke awareness, funded by the New York State Coverdell Stroke Program
  • truth®,” a national youth anti-smoking campaign, sponsored by the Truth Initiative (formerly the American Legacy Foundation)
  • New York Tobacco Control Program statewide tobacco prevention media campaigns

For these projects, Mr. Davis leads large teams of staff responsible for instrument and measurement design, evaluation design, data collection, analysis, and reporting. His research has been published widely in peer-reviewed journals, including Lancet, Tobacco Control, American Journal of Health Behavior, American Journal of Health Promotion, and American Journal of Public Health, among others.
