Kayelyn Schmitzer

Kayelyn Schmitzer is a research survey specialist at RTI. She serves as an advance arrangements community outreach associate for the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Administered by the National Center for Health Statistics, under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it is the only nationally representative study of people of all ages that collects health and nutritional information based on interviews and physical exams. 

Ms. Schmitzer serves as a researcher for the Opioid Policy Model funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse at the National Institutes of Health. She is also a researcher and data analyst for COVID-19 excess mortality measures influenced by the work of the RTI Rarity project – a new approach to risk prediction and adjustment for social factors using artificial intelligence that has developed local social inequity scores across the United States. 

Before joining RTI in 2023, Ms. Schmitzer worked as a research assistant at the Indiana University School of Medicine and at the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health Center for Health Policy. In these roles, she conducted qualitative and quantitative research and data collection, data analysis, report writing, literature reviews, and community outreach. 

 In addition to her work, Ms. Schmitzer holds a professional certificate Certified in Public Health (CPH). She is also a member of the American Public Health Association and the Delta Omega Honor Society.
