Dr. Jeri Ropero-Miller is a Principal Scientist for RTI’s Applied Justice Research Division. She is a Board-certified Forensic Toxicologist with Diplomate status on the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (F-ABFT). She is experienced working with a variety of clients, including the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). Representative projects include the following:

  • Forensic Technology Center of Excellence
  • Criminal Justice Testing and Evaluation Consortium
  • National Forensic Laboratory Information System
  • Census for Medical Examiner and Coroner Offices
  • Census for Publicly Funded Forensic Crime Laboratories
  • Prevalence of Fentanyl and Its Analogs in a Court-Ordered Mandatory Drug Testing Population
  • Forensic Science Training Development and Delivery Program
  • Survey of Law Enforcement Forensic Evidence Processing
  • National Violent Death Reporting System

Dr. Ropero-Miller’s expertise includes working with large surveys, forensic laboratory operations and capacity enhancements, assessment of criminal justice policy and practice, implementation of forensic databases, analytical technology evaluations, technology transitioning, technology evaluation, and forensic certifications. Her work has been extensively published in the areas of clinical and forensic toxicology, including items for Forensic Science International Synergy (c)Journal of Forensic SciencesJournal of Analytical Toxicology (JAT) and a chapter in the 2012 book “Forensic Science: Current Issues, Future Directions.”

Prior to her tenure with RTI, she served as the Deputy Chief Toxicologist at the State of North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and as a Research Chemist at Conoco Incorporated. Dr. Ropero-Miller served as the 2020-2021 President of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) and on the AAFS Board of Trustees Forensic Sciences Foundation. She currently serves on the Society of Forensic Toxicology Board of Directors, the Forensic Sciences Standards Board of the Organization of Scientific Area Committees (OSAC, National Institute of Standards and Technology, NIST), and on the Editorial Boards of FSI Synergy and JAT. She previously served as the Secretary of the ABFT, as a member of the OSAC Chemistry/Instrumental Analysis Scientific Area Committee, and the OSAC Toxicology Subcommittee.
