Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD): Focus on Interdisciplinary Care and Caregiver Lived Experience

On August 12, 2025, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. ET, the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center will host the webinar, Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD): Focus on Interdisciplinary Care and Caregiver Lived Experience. A description of the webinar and registration information follows.
This session will provide the participant a general understanding of the difference between Alzheimer’s disease and Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD), with an emphasis on the young-onset and atypical caregiver experience. We will highlight the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to diagnosis, care planning, and caregiver support to promote the highest quality of life possible for persons living with a diagnosis and families. Communication strategies, behavior management, and caregiver support resources will be discussed. The lived experience of FTD caregivers will be shared as part of this webinar.

Katie is the Director of Caregiver Support Services and Public Relations for the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Frontotemporal Disorders (FTD) Unit where she provides leadership for research, education and community events aimed at supporting the caregiver experience for families impacted by Alzheimer’s Disease, Frontotemporal disorders and young-onset dementias. Her passion for this role was inspired by her experience as an FTD family caregiver for her late husband and for her Dad, a veteran who has been living with Alzheimer's disease for 16 years.
Marilyn Decalo, MA (Masters of Transpersonal Psychology), Member, ALLFTD Participant and Family Engagement Board·University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Denver, Colorado
Marilyn is a full time caregiver to her spouse of 44 years who is diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a form of FTD. She has served on the ALLFTD Participant and Family Engagement Board for the past 4 years and is particularly interested in advocating for caregiver research and support. She lives in Boulder, Colorado.
