RTI joins global partners to raise awareness about NTDs, which impact nearly 1 in 5 people around the world
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — On January 30, World Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Day, RTI International is proud to join the World Health Organization (WHO) and partners in celebrating global progress to eliminate NTDs. A diverse group of conditions, NTDs negatively affect the lives of more than one billion people around the world. This year, the theme for World NTD Day is Unite. Act. Eliminate, a global call for coordinated action to end NTDs.
To date, 50 countries have eliminated at least one NTD, an accomplishment that marks the halfway point to achieve the goals set forth in the WHO NTD Road Map for 2030. Strong government leadership and the support of the global NTD community have been critical to this progress and will be even more crucial as RTI works to solve some of the most pressing challenges.
For more than 17 years, RTI, a nonprofit research institute and leading international development organization, has been proud to work hand-in-hand with governments to provide NTD services, including the delivery of more than 2.2 billion treatments to more than 223 million people around the world.
Through the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Act to End NTDs | East program, RTI is supporting governments to deliver NTD services to some of the hardest to reach populations, including fishing communities in Tanzania, areas impacted by conflict in Mozambique, and ‘never treated’ populations in Haiti.
Through internally funded research, RTI is identifying critical knowledge gaps and piloting innovative approaches to accelerate progress toward NTD elimination.
