RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Researchers at RTI International, a nonprofit research institute, in partnership with CommunicateHealth, Inc. and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, were recently honored by the Center for Plain Language with the 2022 Grand ClearMark Award for an interactive social story related to COVID-19.
Specifically, the team created public health communication materials for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and extreme low literacy around COVID-19 vaccines. They were acknowledged by the judges for producing clear, concise and engaging content, winning in the short brochure category as well as the top award, the Grand ClearMark.
“We were honored to work closely with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to develop materials that deliver important information about COVID-19 in a relevant and useful way,” said Molly Lynch, RTI public health analyst and project director. “Understanding the knowledge gaps and barriers among these high-risk populations for certain health behaviors is essential to communicate effectively with these groups.”
The Center for Plain Language is a nonprofit organization that helps government agencies and organizations improve their written communications across audiences and formats. Plain language ensures that the audience can easily find what they need, understand what they find and use that information accordingly.
Lynch and her colleagues will be presenting on Understanding Critical Knowledge Gaps Among High-Risk Populations at the 2022 National Conference on Health Communication, Marketing and Media (NCHCMM).
