In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, RTI International is adapting its previously developed North Carolina geospatially explicit health care facility network model to simulate the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The model, which includes detailed information about patient movement among acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, and the community, was developed in partnership with colleagues from UNC Health Care and the NC Department of Public Health to explore interventions that prevent transmission of health care-associated infections (HAIs). This model was developed through RTI’s work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) MInD Healthcare Network. The RTI team, led by Sarah Rhea, DVM, PhD, will be working closely with CDC and other partners, using the model to explore interventions to mitigate the impact of COVID-19.
Additional RTI experts working in this area include Georgiy Bobashev, Stacy Endres-Dighe, Emily Hadley, Rainer Hilscher, Pooja Iyer, Kasey Jones, Lei Li, and Jay Rineer.
