RTI International to implement new USAID effort to improve education and opportunities for children and youth in Honduras

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — RTI International (RTI), a global research institute and international development organization, has been selected by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to implement its new five-year flagship education project in Honduras. The project aims to support the Government of Honduras to improve access to and participation in safe, relevant, and high-quality basic education for 300,000 children and youth, ensuring that they have the knowledge, skills, and motivation to engage as productive citizens and contribute to building a prosperous Honduras.

The Improving Pathways to Education (IPE) activity will work in partnership with the Honduras Ministry of Education (MOE) to support comprehensive system reform, driven by social change and accelerated by digital transformation. IPE will engage all stakeholders – including youth, families, the private sector, other donors and civil society – to set a common agenda to reintegrate students who have left school, improve learning outcomes and education pathways, and build a positive and safe school culture and environment. IPE will co-develop platforms with the MOE to share and act on education data, help local school communities plan and implement solutions that work for them, and support the MOE to sustain education reform.

“Through this new project and in partnership with USAID and the Honduras MOE, we look forward to working with our partners to strengthen the critical individual, social, community and institutional bonds to support a sense of belonging and a bright future for Honduran children, youth and their families,” said Melinda Taylor, senior vice president for international education at RTI.

To achieve this vision, RTI has teamed up with a consortium of partners already working to improve education in Honduras: Catholic Relief Services; Fundación Nacional para el Desarrollo de Honduras; Fundación Hondureña de Responsabilidad Social Empresarial; Fundación Zamora Terán; and Punto de Acceso. Together with RTI, these organizations offer expertise and demonstrated success supporting activities aligned with IPE’s objective: to improve learning and retention in schools that are safe and inclusive.
