RTI’s Rebecca Perry selected as Bloomberg American Health Initiative Fellow

She joins prestigious group working to make a difference in the health of Americans

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Rebecca Perry, public health manager at the independent scientific research institute RTI International, has been selected as one of 10 doctoral Bloomberg Fellows through the Bloomberg American Health Initiative at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The collaborative program works to improve health and life expectancy in the U.S.

The fellowship provides full scholarships for graduate degrees in public health at the Bloomberg School. Perry is pursuing a doctoral degree focused on drug addiction and overdose and implementation science while continuing her public health research at RTI.

“I am honored and humbled to join the ranks of more than 400 previous Bloomberg Fellows to make a lasting impact on public health in U.S. communities, while working towards RTI’s mission of improving the human condition,” said Perry.

The Bloomberg Fellowship program is designed to train individuals working on critical health challenges in the U.S. by providing public health training and resources to drive change in their communities. The fellow’s current place of employment, referred to as a collaborating organization, supports the fellow, plays a key role in the program, and joins a national network of scholars, educators, practitioners and other organizations working on similar health challenges.

Perry has more than 20 years of experience in public health with a focus on health care access and coverage. She has also led numerous projects focused on behavioral health and supporting care for communities such as individuals who use drugs, Medicaid-enrolled individuals and Native American communities.

Currently serving as a senior manager for RTI’s Community Health & Implementation Research Program, Perry holds an M.Sc. in public health in developing countries; health economics from The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a B.A. in community health from Brown University.
