Stephanie Zimmer is a senior research statistician at RTI. She is an expert in survey sampling and has helped develop sampling designs for several national in-person surveys. Her varied projects at RTI include responsibilities in sample design, data management, analysis, weighting, assisting on frame building activities, and overseeing sampling statisticians.

Dr. Zimmer conducts research regarding Address-Based Sampling (ABS) and sampling design. She has extensive experience with programming in R, SAS, and SUDAAN and teaches SUDAAN and R classes. She is also a co-author of the forthcoming book “Exploring Complex Survey Data Analysis Using R: A Tidy Introduction with {srvyr} and {survey}."

Prior to joining RTI, she completed her doctorate in Statistics at Iowa State University, where she worked in the Center for Survey Statistics and Methodology researching multivariate stratification algorithms. Outside of RTI, Dr. Zimmer is an active member of R-Ladies RTP, and organization dedicated to increasing the representation of women and gender minorities in the R community by providing mentorship, collaborative learning, and support. She will be a Council of Sections Representative for the Survey Research Methods Section of the American Statistical Association in 2025-2026. Dr. Zimmer is also an active member of the North Carolina chapter of the American Statistical Association.
