Sabrina McCutchan is a research data scientist with 15 years of experience helping clients modernize their data systems and govern their data assets. Ms. McCutchan’s approach synergizes technical data management skills related to interoperability, harmonization, metadata management, resilience, and data quality with data governance processes and a driving paradigm of data ethics to deliver tailored solutions for modernizing mission-critical data. In her role, she designs and implements data modernization solutions for biomedical, public health, food and agriculture, and education research projects.

Ms. McCutchan currently serves as a lead data steward for the National Institutes of Health’s Helping to End Addiction Long-term® (NIH HEAL) Initiative Data Ecosystem and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Research and Development of Vaccines and Monoclonal Antibodies for Pandemic Preparedness (ReVAMPP) Network. With her expertise in data governance and data management, she shapes metrics and reporting and equips researchers for data sharing across these projects.

As a subject matter expert in data modeling and harmonization, Ms. McCutchan is helping to develop a harmonized model for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) BioData Catalyst project. She also leverages her expertise in data governance and data systems modernization to collaboratively author a handbook for governing anti-microbial resistance data for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Prior to joining RTI in 2023, Ms. McCutchan led data governance initiatives championing responsible data practices to cultivate trust across complex stakeholder landscapes. Throughout her career, she has trained hundreds of researchers in data management and adherence to FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data principles. Ms. McCutchan is passionate about equipping data producers and users to handle data responsibly in modern digital environments.

She is a Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) and member of the Research Data Alliance. Ms. McCutchan is also a member of the Future of Privacy Forum’s Ethics and Data in Research Working Group, where she collaborates with other industry leaders to discuss challenges and create best practices for protecting privacy, reducing risk, and fostering data sharing.
