Martina Gonzalez Bertello is an environmental scientist at RTI where she develops technical and educational materials, oversees participatory science training, and leverages data analysis to interpret and communicate findings. 

Currently, Ms. Gonzalez Bertello supports the Clean Classrooms for Carolina Kids program by identifying lead and asbestos hazards through citizen science training and recruitment, results dissemination, and risk mitigation. Additionally, she contributes to the enrollment and training activities through hosting webinars, providing client support, and creating information materials such as videos, flyers, and Spanish-translated alternatives. 

Ms. Gonzalez Bertello also works on another project, conducting data analysis and site selection with the use of ArcGIS to determine ideal sampling sites to assess the social, environmental, and public health impacts of a large-scale biogas operation in Southeast North Carolina. 

Prior to joining RTI in 2023, Ms. Gonzalez Bertello worked as a graduate research assistant at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Institute of Marine Sciences’ lab. There, she assessed the efficiency of stormwater control techniques on campus streams to determine which specific interventions improve stream health and water quality.
