Katherine Hoogesteyn is a Research Legal Psychologist in RTI’s Justice Practice Area. Dr. Hoogesteyn is broadly interested in the process of translating empirical findings into practical guidance for police practitioners. More specifically, her research explores: 1) the use of evidence-based techniques to elicit information from crime victims, witnesses, and suspects during investigative interviews; 2) police training and improved response to human trafficking and gender-based violence crimes; and 3) workforce issues within policing to enhance the recruitment and retention of diverse officers.

Before joining RTI in 2023, Dr. Hoogesteyn was a senior research associate at the National Policing Institute, where she led and worked on numerous law enforcement-related studies for the National Institute of Justice, The Office on Violence Against Women, and the Bureau of Justice Assistance. She is originally from Venezuela and is a native Spanish speaker.
