Dr. Denish Moorthy is the Senior Advisor, Technical for the USAID-funded Enhancing Nutrition Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (NuMERAL) in the Health Sector Activity. In this role, he supports activities related to strengthening nutrition within the health systems, research on micronutrients and anemia, and translation of evidence from the project to strengthen policies and programs.

His areas of expertise include evidence-based medicine and nutrition, micronutrients, implementation of multisectoral nutrition programs, capacity strengthening, quality improvement in clinical practice, curriculum development in health and nutrition, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and social and behavior change theory and practice.  

Prior to joining RTI, Dr. Moorthy worked at JSI Research and Training Institute, as Senior Technical Advisor on the USAID Advancing Nutrition project. In this role, he managed the micronutrient portfolio for the project. He also led two global initiatives in the area of micronutrients—the USAID Advancing Nutrition Anemia Task Force and the Hemoglobin Measurement (HEME) project, and supported country programs in Ghana, Kyrgyz Republic, Nigeria, Nepal, and Uganda.  Previously, Dr. Moorthy also worked on data generation towards, training for, and advocacy on the elimination of iodine deficiency disorders with the Indian arm of the International Council for Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (ICCIDD).
