Katie Peel is an innovative global health professional with 17 years of experience designing and implementing complex health programs across Africa, including in fragile settings. Her focus areas include health systems strengthening, maternal and child health and family planning. She is particularly interested in the nexus between health systems strengthening and community engagement for improved health outcomes at the community level.

Ms. Peel is as a senior health systems strengthening specialist in RTI’s Global Health Department. Currently, she serves as the Project Manager for USAID/Owod, a project working to strengthen the capacity and commitment of Senegal’s health system at the district and regional levels to provide improved malaria; reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health; nutrition; and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services. She is also the technical lead for Health Policy Plus Project’s ‘accountability and the law’ activity in Zambia and Uganda. This initiative aims to better understand the link between accountability for family planning and the broader legal and policy framework, as well as develop actionable recommendations to strengthen accountability systems. Prior to joining RTI, Ms. Peel was an independent global health consultant, a technical advisor for MannionDaniels, a senior manager in health for Adam Smith International, and a health practice specialist for Palladium. Ms. Peel is experienced in quantitative assessment of the health system, including development of targeted capacity development plans to address the health system gaps, and qualitative community and stakeholder consultations. She has reinforced capacity across decentralized management and accountability structures of the health system and has worked across both public and private sectors. She has lived in Togo and Swaziland and speaks French.
